Botox® Cosmetic

Enhanced Aesthetics offers Botox®, a safe, sterile, effective natural purified protein, administered by Dr. Kerry, which relaxes the muscles which cause deep lines.  It is meant to treat dynamic lines, meaning those that develop or are significantly increased due to periodic muscle pull.  It is used mostly in the upper third of the face and specifically in the areas around the eyes, nose, and brow.  Botox® is injected with a very tiny needle and usually lasts four months.  Many patients book appointments ahead.  After three four-month treatments, many people may go for a year or more without treatment.  Pricing will be given to you following your physician consult and depends on the severity of the problem, number of areas treated, and amount of product necessary to achieve your goals.

All precautions are taken at Enhanced Aesthetics, including the use of fresh Botox® mixed according to strict manufacturer guidelines to ensure the ultimate sanitation and sterility.  Only sterile disposable needles and syringes are used.  The skin is prepared with both a topical anesthetic, as well as a nerve block, if necessary, so that the very fine needle injections will not be painful.  Physician screening is important in order to give the best results and, again, Botox® is administered by Dr. Kerry.

How Does It Work?

Botox® is injected into the muscle in the involved areas and works by weakening the muscle, which in turn lessens the wrinkle lines in that area.  The results last 4-6 months.  Botox® Cosmetic works well for frown lines, forehead lines, "bunny lines," and crow's feet.  By combining Botox® Cosmetic with peels, daily alpha hydroxyacid, and tretinoin cream, a patient can look years younger without surgery.

SIDE EFFECTS:
  • Rarely, an injection does not take and a touch-up is necessary. Initial injections are 90% effective.  If a muscle is still moving in three weeks, consider a touch up treatment, which costs ¼ to ½ the cost of the initial treatment fee.
  • One in ten patients will develop a small bruise or hematoma, which may take a few weeks to resolve.  We like to use a temporary cold pack which helps to prevent this problem.
  • Rare drooping of an eyebrow or eyelid can occur; this can last 3-6 months but is always reversible.
  • Extremely rare double vision has been reported, which can last 3-6 months but is always reversible.
PRECAUTIONS:

If any of the following apply, you should not receive Botox® injections:

  • Have myasthenia gravis
  • Have neuromuscular disease
  • Have an allergy to human albumin
  • Have an allergy to botulinum toxin
  • If you are now pregnant or breast feeding
  • If you have had beer, wine or alcohol in the last one week
  • If you have taken aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication in the last two weeks

What To Do Before Your Botox® Injections:

  • No alcohol one week prior to treatment
  • No anti-inflammatory medicine or aspirin two weeks before treatment

What To Do After Your Botox® Injections:

  • Do not lie down for 4 hours after the treatment.  Try to remain sitting and relaxed.
  • Do not massage the treated muscles, as this can cause the Botox® to spread to the muscles around the eyes
  • Exercise the muscles every 15 minutes for 1 hour after the treatment, the Botox® attaches better

What To Expect After Your Botox® Injections:

The treated areas will take 5-10 days to soften and treatment will last 4-6 months.  Results are not immediate with Botox®.

Can You Have Repeated Botox® Injections?

Yes, Injections can be repeated every 4-6 months.  There are no known long term side effects.  With time some patients will require less frequent treatments as they break the habit of contracting frown lines and other muscles of facial expression.
