What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Photorejuvenation?

Intense Pulsed Light technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as rosacea, facial skin imperfections, birthmarks, port wine stains, unsightly small veins and other blemishes. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and patient satisfaction. This new procedure process is called Photorejuvenation.

How is the Photorejuvenation procedure performed?

A cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you will be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. The smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently placed next to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a rubber band. An anesthetic cream may be used, but is seldom required. Treatment is generally administered in a series of visits that provides excellent long-term results, minimal adverse side effects and high satisfaction.

Why are multiple treatments necessary?

Depending on the number and type of conditions we are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, a series of five or six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. To stay within safety parameters improvements occur gradually cumulatively with each treatment.

What conditions can IPL treat?

Enlarged pores, dull complexions and other facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology improves both the superficial and deeper skin layers and rejuvenates the skin while at the same time delivering thermal energy to deep tissue. After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of smoother, revitalized skin. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest and hands.

How do other treatments compare to Photorejuvenation?

While there are lasers that treat specifically only red spots, brown spots, or that are used to just resurface facial skin, no technology provides the combined long-term improvement of complexion and texture of the IPL Photorejuvenation program – all without the slightest interruption in your busy lifestyle. We do often combine our NewApeel DiamondTone™ Microdermabrasion with the VascuLight for best results.

Is there more?

Also available with your IPL treatments, laser treatments may be added to improve wrinkle/lines with our WrinkleLite program. Lax "droopy" skin is helped with our Laxity Vector treatments.
